Building on the success of the original, NavigX Touch 2.1 now converts between Latitude/Longitude coordinates and Ordnance Survey Grid References (Great Britain and Ireland), Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), United States National Grid (USNG) and Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates, all via a vastly updated user interface which fully utilises the capabilities of the iPhone. As with the original version, NavigX Touch 2.1 still gives you your location but now you can choose how you'd like to see your current location - any of the available grid reference styles are selectable. The similarity ends there, though. Navigation is a brand new feature with NavigX Touch 2.1 and you'll find a wealth of features that you'd normally only find on a high-end GPS. Magnetic/True heading (on the 3GS), Bearing to your destination, course/track, magnetic variation, altitude/elevation, distance to destination, average speed, current speed, waypoint directory and track history are just a few of the features you'll find. For the more experienced navigators, you'll find that you can also select between Great Circle or Rhumb Line navigation methods. No GPS can cut the mustard these days without a map and NavigX Touch 2.1 has just that. Integration with Google Maps is now part and parcel with NavigX Touch and you'll find maps in pretty much every part of the software. You can even add waypoints to the waypoint directory from a map-based display. NavigX Touch 2.1 is now available through the App Store and is still only £1.79 ($2.99). That's still less than the price of a beer for a very capable GPS system. For up to date information and news as well as discussion of NavigX Touch, you can follow us on Twitter @navigxdude. PLEASE NOTE: We've been caught short in updating the site with the new NavigX Touch 2.1 screenshots and how-to guides as Apple reviewed the new update in less than 24 hours! Please bear with us while we get these uploaded. Apologies for any inconvenience.
