So you've downloaded NavigX, opened the disk image and dragged NavigX to your Applications folder and started NavigX - what next?
To get a Lat/Long from an OS Grid, just enter the full OS Grid Reference (with leading Grid letters) and, again, click the 'Convert' button. It really couldn't be easier. Once you've performed your conversion, just click the 'Reset' button to clear all of the fields and you can start again. This is pretty much all there is to the basic functionality of NavigX so the only other aspect of the basic window to explain are the Copy/Paste functions. With Copy and Paste, we elected NOT to have a single Copy or Paste function as we wanted to provide as much flexibility as possible. In NavigX, if you click on the Edit menu, you'll see that you have a number of choices. With the Copy functions, you have a choice of two - 'Copy Lat/Long' and 'Copy OS Grid Ref'. The former takes all of the values from the Latitude and Longitude fields, turns them into one Lat/Long coordinate and puts them on the clipboard for you to paste into whatever application you like. The latter simply takes the contents of the OS Grid field and places them on the clipboard for you. Paste functionality works in a similar manner except it doesn't have the same degree of automation (yet) as the Copy function. Click on the Edit menu again and you'll see a choice of three paste functions - 'Paste Latitude', 'Paste Longitude', 'Paste OS Grid Ref'. All you need to do is copy your co-ordinates from whatever application you are using and clicking whichever option will populate that particular row. NOTE: Paste operation reliability depends on the format you are copying. If you copy a coordinate along the lines of 53:23:14.2189N, the coordinate will paste flawlessly into the application. At present, any other format doesn't work. This will be corrected in a future release but we need user feedback to inform us of the formats that they want to paste. We'll build automatic functionality into future releases of NavigX which will automatically decide what you are using and paste the correct values in the correct fields. |
