| Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) Conversions |
|
However, with an MGRS grid reference, the screen would become too cluttered using a picker and precision would be sacrificed due to the length of the grid reference itself. To get around this problem, touching on the MGRS cell brings another view into play.
1. The UTM Zone number, e.g. 30U 2. The MGRS Digraph, e.g. XE 3. The eastings. The first five digits of the numerical part of the grid reference. 4. The northings. The last five digits of the numerical part of the grid reference. Once you're done, just touch 'Done'. When you press 'Done', a number of checks are performed to ensure that you've typed a valid MGRS grid reference into the app. If, for some reason, the app doesn't like what you've typed, it'll prompt you and explain where the problem lies. If all is well, you'll be taken back to the original 'Convert' view and the conversion will have been performed for you. You should also notice that a blue icon has appeared to the right of the cell. Touching this copies the grid reference to the clipboard for easy pasting into different apps.
You'll see a grid reference at the top of the map and a crosshair in the middle of the map. The grid reference you see is the point on the map directly under the middle of the crosshair. You can scroll and zoom on this map in exactly the same way as you can with all the other maps. The MGRS grid reference displayed is always the point on the map directly under the centre of the crosshair. You'll see the same '+' sign at the right of the navigation bar. Touching the '+' button on either scree will allow you to add either the converted point or the point under the crosshair on the map to the waypoint directory. Clicking 'Back" takes you back to the main 'Convert' screen. And that's MGRS Grid Reference conversions done! |
