| Using View Assist |
|
The aim of View Assist in Lakeland Fells is to give you an idea of the fells around you when you're at the top of a summit. Just select View Assist when you're on the summit and you'll be presented with a map with three scales. The span of the map is the distance indicated on the scales. By default, the initial scale is the 5km scale so View Assist will display 2.5km around you in any given direction. The other scales operate in a similar way. The top of your iPhone is the reference point for the compass so, if you point the top of the phone at a fell, that will be at the top of the display on your iPhone. The bearing given on the display is the MAGNETIC bearing from your iPhone to the fell so it should match your compass bearing. When you see a green pin on the map display, touch it and it will show the name of the fell and it will also display its grid reference in your chosen grid scheme (OS Grid, UTM or MGRS). NOTES 1. We are working on a solution where the label for the pin is displayed so that you don't have to tilt your head to read it. 2. We've tested the map functionality on the O2 network on several fells throughout the Lake District and Cumbria and we received a signal on each one. We're optimistic that you'll be able to get a signal but if you have difficulty getting a signal on a particular summit, please let us know. 3. If you have a suggestion to improve View Assist, please let us know. The aim of Lakeland Fells is to help you get the most out of this beautiful part of our country so if your suggestion helps you, chances are it will help someone else too. |
